RH & Associates provides neutral, third-party facilitation services for Partnering and
Team Building workshops. This provides non-biased workshop leaders with no vested interest
in the outcome of the project. Their interest is the positive affect of Partnering on the project.
Our third-party facilitation provides a structured, yet informal and “safe” environment
in which all team members are encouraged to actively participate. It is natural and necessary
for the “details” of the project to surface during the workshop. We use the project elements to
help the teams focus on the affect of the Partnering process on the specific project at hand.
The facilitator’s role is to ensure that the workshop stays on track, balancing the need for
issue resolution and the development of a team approach.
RH & Associates’ Partnering programs are tailored to each project. We try and avoid the
traditional lecture format and provide a variety of participatory exercises to ensure involvement
and communication among the participants. Our facilitators encourage a high-energy, enjoyable
experience that results in a strong “team” foundation and the tools to maintain the process
throughout the project.

Initial Workshops – These focus on the project at hand, including issues, goals, problem solving,
and effective conflict management.
Turn-around Workshops – When project teams need to refocus their efforts on effective issue
resolution, conflict management and improving communication.
Maintenance Workshops – These short workshops help to keep teams and projects on track by
allowing teams to discuss both the positives and negative aspects of the project and focus
on maintaining a strong team.
Facilitated Issue Resolution – Very specific facilitated sessions focussing on project issues
and coming to resolution.
Close-out Workshops – Designed to help finalize the end of the project, discuss construction
and design challenges and helps to focus on improving future projects.

WHY SELECT RH & ASSOCIATES?

the appropriate program for each project. Although the elements of the Partnering process are
always the same, the experience of the Contractor, Design Consultant, Construction Manager and
the Owner’s staff members may vary. It is imperative that the Partnering program be designed
for the specific needs of each team and project. We do not believe in “off-the-shelf” programming.
RH & Associates believes that our use of dual facilitators increases the effectiveness of your
Partnering workshop. It is the firm’s practice to use dual facilitation on most projects.

Our philosophy of using two facilitators stems from our initial workshops with new clients.
Many of these clients were familiar with the single-facilitator role. However, after
experiencing our two-facilitator program, almost all now request that we provide two
facilitators for their workshops.
Each of our facilitators draws on her specific expertise. This provides the technical
knowledge necessary and a good mix of two different but complementing personalities and
increases our participants’ interest and attention.

The goals of the Partnering workshops are to establish an effective project management team,
develop consensus on the project goals, open lines of communication among team members and gain
commitment of all team members to the Partnering process.
RH & Associates believes that successful workshops:

- Capitalize on the synergy of the group
- Create a non-adversarial position for all stakeholders
- Allow an effective, comfortable flow of information
- Use the abilities, skills, talents and resources of all team members to build a quality project
Determining Project Needs: RH & Associates believes that it is very important to have a preliminary
dialogue with the owner and contractor/consultant. We spend preparation time to gain insight into
the past experience of each organization in the partnering process; learn specific details about the
project; understand past working relationships of team members and the expectations for the workshop.
RH & Associates then develops a program and details a program outline.
This approach ensures that the client’s needs are met and gives the facilitators an understanding of
the project issues to be discussed during the workshop and the amount of time needed to resolve these issues.
Outline: Once we understand the project needs and the team members’ Partnering knowledge, we determine the
format and elements of the workshop and develop a detailed outline. This outline ensures the flexibility
necessary to handle issues if they surface at the workshop. A sample outline follows this section.
Materials: RH & Associates provides each participant a comprehensive workbook that includes all of the
workshop materials. These allow the participants to take the important principles of the workshop to their
workplace as a reminder of the Partnering elements that were discussed during the workshop.
Final Report: Each workshop is documented in a final report. This is a detailed representation of what
happened at the workshop and the agreements made.
Project Charter: The Project Charter documents the Mission Statement and established Project Goals.
All members sign the Charter and receive an original suitable for framing. We recommend that the
Project Charter be prominently displayed on the job site.
RH & Associates develops different programs for the Partnering process. Developing the program takes
into account the experiences of the participants, including:
- Teams with little or no Partnering experience
- Teams with some Partnering experience
- Teams with extensive Partnering experience
- Teams who have already worked together on other projects
- Agencies/Companies which desire internal team building
As each project/team is new and different, the final program is tailored to meet the specific
needs of each project/program and the needs of the participants. At a minimum, the following will
be accomplished for each team:
- Communication plans developed
- Roles & Responsibilities understood
- Project Goals Developed with Action Plans
- Discussion of key project issues, process and concerns
- Issue resolution and escalation process developed
- Partnering maintenance/monitoring plan developed
RH & Associates works very closely with you to determine the specific needs of your project
and project team. We submit preliminary agendas for every project to ensure that you will be
comfortable with all of the project elements and how they will be presented during the workshop.

WEB-BASED MAINTENANCE SERVICES
RH & Associates offers this service to our clients to help maintain the Partnering process.
This includes working directly with the owner and contractor/consultant through their appointed
project representative on a scheduled basis.
RH will provide a computerized monthly partnering evaluation form through our web site.
Each project will be assigned a project number. The team member will log onto their project,
fill out the monthly rating form on line and then a set of graphs will be available for the team to use.
The Partnering Champions for the project will have access to the graphs and the project comments to
share with the entire team as a tool to discuss ways to improve and areas to provide support.
